The Best Thing To Hold On To

Hello everyone! I am sharing a mixed media layout that I have created using a technique which is something that I admire in other crafters. I have mixed feelings with how my projects turn out when I use mists in my background, but I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and create something in a different style.
One thing that I have discovered that when using mists, is that I find it very difficult to control how much mist goes onto my background when I spray it OR having the mist land where I would like it to go. In my layout (after preparing my paper with clear and then white gesso). I applied the mist straight from the bottle with a paintbrush. I had control of where and how much colour I used.
Once I had added my colour, I could start add my layers of paper. I inked the edges and used mounting foam for definition. I also place the mounting foam only in the centre of the papers in case I want to tuck something in later.
I print my photos at home for my layouts. By adjusting the filter or adding a filter to my photo, it also adds to the overall feel I wanting to capture. As the tones of this collection are muted, I toned things down in my photo.
The collectables provide so many wonderful embellishments to each collection. I always open my packet and pull out what I want to use and go from there. You can tuck them in and behind your papers to add layers and interest to your layout.

I hope that my thoughts and discoveries may help you try to step outside of your comfort zone when you decide to create next. I hope my suggestions about mists might encourage you to try and use them on a card or even on your next layout!
