How To Colour a Stamped Image Using Kaiserfusions

Hello everyone! It’s Cathy here and I would like to share with you how to colour in stamped images using Kaiserfusion markers. I am a beginner at using alcohol markers but I am going to share what I have learnt so far. This tip may be a bit long, but I’ll be as succinct as possible!

Firstly, you need to have paper and ink that are suitable for alcohol markers. I have used X-Press It Blending Card and Memento Tuxedo Black ink. When you use alcohol markers, you are able to blend and apply multiple layers of colour. The right ink prevents colours from bleeding and the right paper eliminates any paper pilling.

When selecting markers for your project, you need a light, medium and a dark. I have played around with the markers that I have to find these possible combinations. I have a journal specifically for this and I also use this as a place to practise my colouring.

Step One: Stamp your image onto X-Press It Blending Card using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

Step Two: Select your light, medium and dark colours for the body. I have used Y05, Y07 and Y09.

Step Three: Using Y05, colour the body of the lion.

Step Four: Working in one section at a time, use your dark marker which is Y09 to create a shadow near the lion’s tail.

Step Five: Select your medium marker which is Y07 and blend out from the edge of your dark using a flicking motion. Repeat this step of blending from dark to light until you have blended out any lines.

Step Six: Select another section of the lion where you want shadows. Repeat steps three, four and five . It’s important to work in small sections so that the ink doesn’t dry out.

Step Seven: For the remaining sections of the lion, my light, medium and dark markers are OR04, OR05 and R01.

Step Eight: Layer your lightest colour first which is OR04, then blend out from darkest to lightest.

Step  Nine: For my background, I used a cloud template, ink and a sponge dauber to create clouds in the background.

Step Ten: To create the grass, I used Kaiserfusions markers. Again I used a light G11, medium G13 and a dark G14 and an optional white gel pen. Starting with G11, randomly make V marks all over the area where you want grass. Repeat this with G13 and G14. Add some highlights by making some V marks with a white gel pen.

Here is my finished card:
